HCI440: Introduction to User Centered Design
Graduate Level – Fall, Winter, Spring
For incoming graduate HCI students, this is an overview of the the human-centered design process applied to simple user interfaces. We introduce methods for practicing user-centered design including user and task analysis, user interface design principles and testing with low-fidelity prototypes.
CSE2XX and CSE3XX: The Creator’s Workshop
Undergraduate – Fall and Winter
An immersive/intensive introduction to physical computing for advanced freshmen (with calculus and programming skills; application required for entrance). Students learn physical fabrication (3D printing, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, CNC milling, molding/casting), electronics (PCB design, manufacture, and assembly, debugging, firmware in C), and create several interactive projects.
Because of the demanding nature of this course, it requires the equivalent of 2 course credits (8 credit hours) for each of the two quarters in which it is taught (16 credit hours total). This sequence is designed to build a fun, strong ‘hacker’ culture that celebrates creative technology design for talented incoming students.
DePaul Hacks
Undergraduate and Graduate – Fall, Winter, Spring
Dr. Ramsay hosts a hacker meetup for any students interested in developing basic electronics, fabrication, and prototyping skills. See the website for more information.
Students can make a website to catalog their work on the hosted gitlab website for this course (gitlab.depaulhacks.com).
